HomeMy WebLinkAbout20062457 RESOLUTION RE: SUBMITTING TO THE ELECTORS OF THE GENERAL ELECTION ON NOVEMBER 7, 2006, AMENDMENTS TO THE WELD COUNTY HOME RULE CHARTER WHEREAS,the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of administering the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and WHEREAS,Article XVI I,Section 17-1(1)(b)of the Weld County Home Rule Charter provides for the submittal to the qualified electors proposed Home Rule Charter amendments by Resolution of this Board, and WHEREAS,after study and consideration,the Board determines that the following proposed amendments to Article XIII, Section 13-9 (2) of the Weld County Home Rule Charter, shall be referred to the ballot for the November 7, 2006, general election (highlight and strikeout show changes): Section 13-9. Nomination of Councilmen. (2) Nomination petitions may be circulated and signed beginning on the one hundred and twenty-fifth(125th)day and ending on the seventy-fifth(75th)day prior to the day of the election. Each petition shall be signed by qualified electors to the to the following numbers: (a) For a candidate in the Council at large, at least one hundred (100)qualified electors residing within the County; (b) For a candidate from a geographic district, at least one hundred (100) qualified electors residing in the candidate's district. WHEREAS,the Board further determines that the Clerk to the Board shall publish the full text of the proposed amendment within 30 days of this Resolution, along with notice that the issue of such proposed amendment will be determined at the general election on November 7, 2006. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County,Colorado,that the proposed amendment to Article XIII,Section 13-9(2)of the Weld County Home Rule Charter,as set forth above, be referred to the ballot for the November 7,2006,general election, and that the question regarding such amendment be presented in the form shown in Exhibit "A."
