COLORADO RE: Intersection Signing of Algonquin and Arikaree
A signing request was received from Michelle Dirks concerning the uncontrolled intersection within the
Indianhead Estates Subdivision. Mr. Dirks is concerned about the limited sight distance and lack of
traffic signing. I telephoned Mr. Dirks to discuss the details and he believes that the intersection should
have a 4-way stopped application.
I have visited the site to look into warrants that might be applicable to multiway stop applications. The
majority of the intersections within the subdivision are tee intersections uncontrolled. As the
development expands to the west, stop signs are being installed on the major streets. The intersection in
question is the only four way intersection as shown on the attached map.
Algonquin connects to WCR 15 and is the main roadway. The SE corner of the intersection has a row of
bushes that limits sight distance. Per the MUTCD, sight distance restrictions is a warrant for the
applications of stop signs. I am recommending a two way stop application be installed at this intersection.
The minor roadway (Arikaree) would be stopped at Algonquin. I do not recommend a four way stop
application as it does not meet warrants.
