RE: APPROVE APPOINTMENT OF STERLING GEESAMAN AS PRIVACY OFFICER UNDER
HEALTH INSURANCE PORTABILITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY ACT
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to
Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of
administering the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and
WHEREAS, by Resolution #2005-1138, dated April 6, 2005, the Board of County
Commissioners approved the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
Compliance Plan for the County Jail as a health care provider, and
WHEREAS, said HIPAA Compliance Plans require HIPAA Privacy Officers be appointed,
and
WHEREAS,David Malcom, HIPAA Privacy Officer, has terminated his employment with the
Weld County Sheriff's Office, and
WHEREAS, Sheriff John Cooke has recommended that Deputy Bureau Chief Sterling
Geesaman be appointed to replace David Malcom as the Sheriff's Office HIPAA Privacy Officer.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Board that Sterling Geesaman be, and
hereby is, appointed the HIPAA Privacy Officer for the Weld County Sheriff's Office HIPAA Plan.
The above and foregoing Resolution was, on motion duly made and seconded, adopted by
the following vote on the 17th day of September, A.D., 2007.
