Awarding safety and wellness accomplishments is an important part of Weld County's loss
prevention program. Each year, the Safety and Wellness Committee reviews nominations for an
individual safety and wellness award and forwards that recommendation to the Board of
Commissioners. The award recognizes individual employees for outstanding accomplishments
by either continually supporting safety and wellness issues while carrying out their daily work or
for performing a single act that goes beyond the normal scope of employment.
The Board of Commissioners presents the 2007 Individual Safety and Wellness Award to
Assessor's Office employee Vermeda Evans and Treasurer's Office employee Teri Shipp.
Approximately six months ago, these two employees put their best foot forward and took on the
task of outlining various walking trails around the north campus of Weld County. Not only did
they map out the routes and measure the distance, they researched and included educational
material on how to safely get started on a physical activity program, hydration, measuring your
heart rate, and more. Vermeda and Teri took the extra step in completing this project. The
information they put together will soon be on the Safety and Wellness website and be distributed
to all employees through different communication channels in the months ahead.
We express our thanks to Vermeda and Teri and hope that our entire staff will follow their
example in furthering safety and wellness among Weld County employees.
