Commissioners, and
WHEREAS,as authorized by Resolution approved by the Board on April 7, 1999, election

Don,
I would like to request that the pay for each election judge be increased by $20.00 for Election Day.
The job of an election judge continues to be more challenging with the constant state and federal law
changes being implemented each election. More is expected of the election judges with the
development of technology...they must have computer knowledge and also have an understanding of
using the electronic voting equipment.
Currently Weld County's election judges are paid $20.00 for attending a mandatory three to four hour
training class. They are paid $80.00 for working the polls on Election Day which begins at 6:00 a.m.
and closes at 7:00 p.m. Judges are required to continue processing voters after 7:00 p.m. and reconcile
the day's work before leaving the vote center which will take additional hours.
The recruiting process continues to be difficult due to the specialized duties of conducting elections.
Most people are unable to afford to take a day from work. Even with the increased amount of$20.00,
the averaged out per hour rate of pay is still below minimum wage.
Thank you for your consideration on improving the pay for the hard working Weld County election
judges who continue to serve the voters.
Sincerely,
Steve Moreno
Weld County Clerk & Recorder
