WHEREAS, Mental Health Month is observed across the country each May to raise awareness and
understanding of mental health and mental illness, and
WHEREAS, the Colorado State Senate and House passed a joint resolution designating May as "Mental Health
Month" in Colorado, and
WHEREAS, good mental health is essential to the overall health of Weld County's children, youth, adults, and
families and residents who have mental illnesses can recover and lead full, productive lives, and
WHEREAS, the cost of community-based public mental health services in Weld County is less than the cost to
incarcerate people with mental health needs.
NOW, THEREFORE LET IT BE KNOWN that the Board of Weld County Commissioners proclaims May
2007 as Mental Health Month in Weld County and encourages all Weld County residents, government agencies,
public and private institutions, businesses, and schools to increase awareness and understanding of mental
illness and commit to support appropriate and accessible services for all citizens.
