The proposed use of this site needs more foresighted attention. First-However selfish it is, I would prefer to keep my view of the Rocky Mountains as it currently is. Second—I understand that this proposal would bring an increased volume of large vehicle traffic to the intersection of Weld County Road 42 and HWY 85. As I have personally experienced, the northern view of south traveling traffic (including train traffic)is severely limited by the angle of the highway at that intersection. This view is • restricted even more by larger vehicle size, especially if it is further limited by equipment that would not allow viewing through the rear window. Third—This intersection is already heavily traveled by young inexperienced drivers coming to and leaving the high school. I have often witnessed"close calls"without adding any more traffic. Again, the angle of this intersection causes confusion as to how to properly deal with traffic coming from the west and continuing north and traffic coming east and continuing south. Both of these items have historically kept most truck traffic from using this intersection unless absolutely necessary. Fourth—Any traffic being routed alternatively from this intersection will be most likely to exit and enter on Weld County Road 33. Road 33 also has an extreme angle of approach in the opposite direction as Road 42. Both roads 33 and 42 are already handling enough traffic to warrant expensive and time-consuming treatment to keep air particulates to a safe range. Would the county see enough revenue to justify the additional road repair expenses? Fifth-The Southgate Trailer Court has numerous children gathering along Weld County Road 42 to meet the school bus. Sixth—Most of the buses belonging to Weld School District RE-1 utilize the intersection of Weld County Road 42 and HWY 85 due to the lack of adequate acceleration and deceleration lanes at the next intersection to the south, • • Seventh—I would like to remind the Commissioners of the documentation that we were required to add to our survey at the time of our request of Exemption#RE-3189. In particular item No. 6 in the NOTES: section reads as follows: WELD COUNTY'S RIGHT TO FARM Weld County is one of the most productive agricultural counties in the United States ranking fifth in total market value of agricultural products sold. The rural areas of Weld County may be open and spacious, but they are intensively used for agriculture. Persons moving into a rural area must recognize and accept there are drawbacks, including conflicts with longstanding agricultural practices and a lower level of services than in town. Along with the drawbacks come the incentives which attract urban dwellers to relocate to rural area: open views, spaciousness, wildlife, lack of city noise and congestion, and the rural atmosphere and way of life. Without neighboring farms, those features which attract urban dwellers to rural Weld County would quickly be gone forever. I and other neighbors that have been adversely affected by the current non-use of irrigations wells are sitting with fields producing dust and weeds. The site of this proposal is currently thriving and producing crops for harvest. I wonder if the honorable Commissioners have changed their view of "Weld County's Right to Farm"or if this is no longer a priority. • I believe that there is a more suitable location for this business, and that the current use for farming would be a wiser choice. I HAVE THESE CONCERNS: ROAD 42 HAS BEEN SURFACED FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS, WHICH HAS BEEN APRRECIATED. BUT I HAVE ALSO OBSERVED THAT FROM THE ENTRANCE OF THE SOUTH GATE ONTO 42 TO THE RR TRACKS THAT PORTION OF THE ROAD BREAKS DOWN AS I HAVE SEEN AFTER RAINS OR SPRING THAW. I BELIEVE THE SAME WILL HAPPEN AT THE ENTRANCE OF THE SUPPORT AND SERVICE FACILITY BEING PLANED. I HAVE ALSO OBSERVED A PROBLEM OF THE SCHOOL BUS LOADING CHILDREN IN THE MORNING TRAFIC BACKING UP BEHIND THE BUS. THEN THE BUS MOVES ON FORWARD AFTER BEING LOADED WITH THE CHIDREN AND COMES TO THE RR TRACK.WHICH ALL TRAFIC MUST STOP BY A STATE LAW, THE NEXT PROBLEM COMES, TO GET THE BUS ACROSSE HI WAY 85. THERE IS NO TRAFIC LIGHT HERE TO HELP THE PROBLEM. THIS BECOMES FUSTRATING TO ANY NUMBER OF DRIVERS BEHIND THAT SCHOOL BUS OLIVER LORENZ t/f< 74 • Thn /- r _yl e S(0 n/S( 1=rri'\c" c /-• R 1/4 14 e? sc--yi J( :✓."t ✓'✓N 04 PI Cr.
