To Whom It May Concern:
This correspondence is in response to a letter mailed to surrounding property owners
(please see enclosed copy of said notice), legal description being given as Lot 13, Block
17, Camfield Town site, owned by Michael and Melanie Scott.
Please consider the following information which reflects our position on their request for
their Special Review Permit for home business.
The Scotts have been wonderful neighbors and keep their property in neat order and to
date have been as considerate as possible when going about their daily home business
functions. They have also displayed their concerns for safety in that their skid loader
equipment has an operational audible alarm device to signal movement when in backup
mode. Due to the fact that they have small children on site, we found this highly
responsible on their part and it was easy to deal with the addition of those noises.
For the most part, the noise emanating from their property has been kept to a minimum
and was not bothersome as we are happy that they have grown and made a profitable
family business that allows them to lead a good life, provide for their family, and
simultaneously remain at the home while doing so. We do not find the storage of large
amounts of wood, a semi trailer, or the skid loader to be a problem at this time.
The addition of what sounds to be the grinding of metal materials that seems to have been
added to their daily tasks in the last year or so can be an annoyance in the warmer
weather when the windows are open. The grinding/cutting of the aforementioned
materials starts early in the morning and some neighbors who are home on days off from
their jobs away from home are subject to these noises.
In nicer weather, when folks want to be outside enjoying their yards with families, the
grinding/cutting is audible and although not terribly annoying, it is present. Our position
is that this is a residential area where people have made their homes and they should be
utilized as such, and although we are happy for the Scotts to succeed in their business, we
are concerned that if the Scotts are granted the Special Permit and develop their business
further, it may open the door for other residents to open mechanic shops, machine shops
and other loud businesses with increased truck traffic and the like. It is highly unlikely, in
that event, that other home business owners would be half as considerate as the Scotts
have been, and continue to be.
Having voiced these concerns, we would like to see the Scotts continue with their
successful home business in the manner they have been, but with the exception that if
they need to expand much more than they already have, they seek a new location in a

non-residential area that is better suited for their needs where they can continue to grow
and thrive. It would be suggested that if they are granted the permit, it is within reason
and that they adhere to a specific noise level so as not to interrupt the lives of their
surrounding neighbors with machine shop noise. I would not be open to having to live
with the aforementioned noise on an increased level for an extended period of time. We
ask that the Planning Board consider the lives of the people who live in the surrounding
area to insure that we can enjoy the peace and repose of our residences that we also work
hard to provide ourselves with. We ask that Camfield remain a primarily residential area
and that no other families be allowed to develop businesses that would generate the
aforementioned noises and concerns. We do not want Camfield to be allowed to turn into
an industrial manufacturing"community".
We wish the Scotts well in their endeavors.
Sincerely,
Walter and Tara Martin
