Later, her husband informed me that Union Pacific Railroad owned the mineral rights. As you many know,railroads were awarded significant mineral rights to lands in return for extending their rail lines into the West. The mineral rights held by Union Pacific are vast. On October 2,2006,I contacted Mr.Terry Young,the Oil and Gas Administrator for Union Pacific. As he explained, his company manages the minerals owned by Union Pacific and its affiliate companies. The Union Pacific interest lies with possible"exploration or developing of the minerals"owned by the company. In sum, if my clients are interested in developing the mineral interest,Union Pacific,is interested. Since the Hunts do not wish to develop the mineral rights,there is no conflict.
