Mr. Garcia,

I am very concerned about the proposed uranium mining near Nunn, Colorado. The potential
risk to water, air and soil quality would affect all Weld County and Colorado residents,
human and animal. Everything I have read convinces me there is no safe way to mine
uranium, and damage cannot be contained and lasts for centuries. The risks far outweigh
any benefits to Northern Colorado. Please work to pass a resolution prohibiting uranium
mining in Weld County.
Thank you,
Diane Rhodes

Please do what you can to discourage the return of uranium mining to Colorado, especially
to northern Colorado. I think it will be an environmental disaster, particularly for our
water supply.
Thank you,
Linda Hoffman

Uranium interest heats up
3 Companies join Powertech in Weld lease filings
by Steve Porter
A review of mining leases filed with the Weld county recorder's office reveals at least 3
additional uranium companies are showing interest in the county by entering into lease
agreements with local landowners.
The leases indicate that Powertech USA, with a controversial uranium prospect near Nunn,
is not alone in its quest to cash in on soaring uranium prices.
New players in the Weld uranium rush include companies based in the US, Canada and
Australia.

Geovic Energy Corp, a Grand Junction-based subsidiary of Geovic Mining Corp. Of Vancouver,
BC signed 56 mining leases with owners of property in Weld County between April 30 and Aug
27, according to a records search.
Also interested in Weld County are Black Range Minerals, based in Perth, Australia,
Vancouver-based Energy Metals Corp, and Contex Energy Co. , a land brokerage company
headquartered in Denver.
Lane Douglas, director of Powertech's Centennial Project in Weld County, said the
companies are among numerous others that are taking an interest in Colorado's uranium
deposits.

Dear Mr. Garcia,
I am writing to ask you to cast your vote to protect our communities' drinking water
aquifers from the in-situ recovery uranium mining proposed by Powertech in the area near
Nunn, Colorado. Powertech's plan to drill into the Laramie-Fox Hills aquifer for uranium
jeopardizes our entire community with the potential release of uranium and other heavy
metals into our drinking water supply. It is widely recognized that there has *never* been
an in-situ uranium project that has succeeded in restoring the surrounding groundwater to
its original baseline condition. The EPA has a well documented history of this particular
mining method's poor track record in protecting water resources. My husband and I have a
three year old daughter and another child on the way. We have always viewed northern
Colorado as the ideal environment to live and raise our family in. The realization that
this type of uranium mining could take place in our back yard is incredibly disturbing to
us. What kind of future would we be leaving for our children should our drinking water
supplies become contaminated with carcinogenic heavy metals? I implore you, in your
position as a voice of Northern Colorado family values, to adopt a resolution that will
prohibit uranium mining in Weld county.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Tiffany Barnes
