Dear Sheriff Andrews:
I made an inspection of the Weld County Jail on April 1, 1980.
General sanitary conditions were very good. However, there are three
items that I would like to bring to your attention:
1. Mildew was found on many of the vinyl mattresses. This could
he prevented by sanitization of the matresses and drying them
before replacing on the concrete or metal bunks. The bunks
should also be sanitized between inmates.
2. Although inmates are responsible for cleaning their own cells,
an incoming person should be assured of a clean and sanitary
cell. Two empty cells in B-pod revealed unclean toilets, sinks,
mattresses and floors.
3. The sliding door from the parking garage to the kitchen store-
room has a gap at the bottom allowing mice to enter the store-
room. It may not be possible to make the door rodent tight,
as is the requirement of the Colorado Food Service Regulations.
However, all efforts should be made to handle the rodent problem
in the garage e.g. rubbish removal, cleaning of area surrounding
trash, and use of bait traps if necessary. The cardboard bait
traps placed in the food storeroom are not allowed. Bait traps
must be spill proof.
If you have any questions concerning these items, we would be willing
to help in any way we can.
Sincerely,
4142
