HomeMy WebLinkAbout20073335.tiff Honorary Proclamation WELD COUNTY 100th Anniversary of the Weld County Farmers Union October 27, 2007 WHEREAS,the Colorado Farmers Union was founded in 1907 in Teller County by seven dedicated individuals; and, WHEREAS,Weld County Farmers Union had its roots in nine locals organized since 1907—Eaton, Ft. Lupton, Galeton, Grover, New Raymer, La Salle, Kersey, LaGrange,Nunn-Carr, Platteville, and Tri-Valley; and, WHEREAS, Rocky Mountain Farmers Union has established an education program for Coloradoans that teaches both rural and urban populations about family farmers and ranchers—the challenges they face, the values they hold, and the communities they support; and, WHEREAS, Rocky Mountain Farmers Union has created a cooperative development center to organize value-added cooperatives, enhance community economic development, and renewable energy; and, WHEREAS, the Farmer Union fights for justice and equity on behalf of farmers and ranchers; and, WHEREAS, Weld County recognizes the tireless effort put forth by the leadership of the county and state Farmers Union on behalf of family farmers, ranchers, and their rural communities, on this, the 100th anniversary. Now, therefore, we, the Weld County Commissioners, do hereby proclaim October 27, 2007, Farmers Union Day in Weld County, marking 100 years.
