HomeMy WebLinkAbout20253513 MINUTES WELD COUNTY COUNCIL October 20, 2025 The Weld County Council met in regular session in full conformity with the Weld County Home Rule Charter at 6:30 p.m., Monday, October 20, 2025, at the Weld County Administration Building, 1150 0 Street, Greeley, CO. ROLL CALL: The meeting was called to order by President Nancy Teksten. Councilmembers Elijah Hatch and Jeff Reck were present, constituting a quorum of members. Councilmembers James Welch and Terry DeGroot had excused absences. Also present was Council Secretary Linda Kane. APPROVAL OF AGENDA : Councilmember Hatch made a motion to approve the agenda, seconded by Councilmember Reck, and the motion carried. APPROVAL OF DOCUMENTATION: Approval of September Minutes Councilmember Reck made a motion to approve the September minutes, seconded by Councilmember Hatch, and the motion carried. REVIEW PROGRAM: Brenda Dones, Weld County Assessor County Assessor Brenda Dones and Chief Deputy Assessor, Jason Marini, gave a brief presentation. Ms. Dones said her office reports to taxpayers not the county commissioners as they are an elected body. Her department covers 4,000 square miles of county properties including within municipalities. They are responsible for approximately 162,000 parcels. Each parcel can have multiple properties. There's 650 different local governments in the county ranging from metro districts to fire districts and water districts. Mr. Marini said as of January 1, the assessor's office is responsible for identifying characteristics and use of property. He said 64 percent of properties are residential. Property is valued every two years when market value is established. In 2025 the assessed value across the county was $109 billion. Marini said last year the tax roll was $1.5 billion. Property taxes collected in Weld County stay in Weld County, they said. Mr. Marini said residential properties are not on a steep incline. Property owners will see an estimated 3 to 5 percent increase in property tax payments. Oil and gas property taxes are expected to remain level. PUBLIC COMMENT: There was no public comment. OLD BUSINESS: There was none. Gc�MMvt\ C�kiurS 2025-3513 ta\ aa \as NEW BUSINESS: Coordinator Reports/Councilman Reports Mr. Hatch was asked by a constituent about Sheriff Reams being able to stay in office while running for commissioner. According to the charter, the sheriff does not have to resign while running, Hatch said. Bills Councilmember Reck made a motion to approve bills, it was seconded by Councilmember Hatch and carried.
