Your unfortunate refusal to act in 1979 to stop
the fragile grassland plow out at Keota will have
horrendous consequences come Fall and next Spring.
The whole area is bare!
The thousands and thousands of additional acres
plowed last summer and planted in wheat has been
hail-totalled. The thousands of acres that failed
to produce anything last summer is, as you know,
also bare. The worked areas will create incredible
dust storm problems .
Nothing has been planted in the bare ground that
blew last fall and this spring, and the wheat crop
stubble will prove useless come a dust storm for
that area.
The sand dunes you saw at Keota this year will be
nothing compared to what is to come. It is sickening
that this has happened. For those of us living in
the area it is worse than a nightmare.
