I',. 2008 Safety and Wellness Award Awarding safety and wellness accomplishments is an important part of Weld County's loss prevention program. Each year, the Safety and Wellness Committee reviews nominations for a safety and wellness award and forwards that recommendation to the Board of Commissioners. The award recognizes employees for outstanding accomplishments by either continually supporting safety and wellness issues while carrying out their daily work or for performing a single act that goes beyond the normal scope of employment. The Board of Commissioners presents the 2008 Safety and Wellness Award to employees of the Public Works Department. Weld County employees can thank them for stepping forward and recommending the implementation of a paved path along the county's north campus reservoir and intersecting with the Poudre Trail. Health assessments offered by Weld County's Safety &Wellness program indicate our employees are at increased risk for chronic disease due to low physical activity levels and increased body weight. This trail access provides a safe environment for employees to engage in regular physical activity close to their worksites. The feedback received from employees has been overwhelmingly positive. The Public Works Department has also addressed the issue of inclement weather as a deterrent to regular activity by creating an indoor track in their building. Their suggestion has created another fitness option for Weld County employees, thus leading us down the path toward a healthier workforce. We express our thanks to employees of the Public Works Department and hope that our entire staff will follow their example in furthering safety and wellness among all Weld County employees. ****Present proclamation and gift certificate. Suggest gift certificate be used to purchase fitness equipment to enhance their safety and wellness program. Hello
