Subject: Fee Estimate for Subgrade Investigation
Approximately 1.5 Miles of Weld County Roads 7 and 48

Mr. Bedell:
At your request, CTL I Thompson, Inc. is pleased to provide this fee estimate for
geotechnical engineering services for a subgrade investigation for the above referenced
project. For preparation of this proposal,you provided us a site map delineating the project
limits. We understand the County desires to obtain information regarding the existing
pavement system and underlying subgrade soils for use in planning and design of the
proposed improvements. We have also been requested to have the underground utilities
located for the entire length of the roadway sites. Our services will be limited to subgrade
exploration, testing, and utility locations. No pavement design is requested for this project.
Based on the provided site description, the project covers approximately 8300 lineal feet.
Your office has requested drilling 11 exploratory borings along the roadway. We anticipate
all borings are to be drilled to a depth of 10 feet. We will collect and test samples of the
subgrade soils, as we deem necessary, in accordance with Weld County street standards.
You have requested Hveem (R-value) and Proctor tests be performed for this project. We
understand that we will need to provide the necessary utility locates and traffic control for
this investigation. You have also requested underground utility locates for the entire length
of he roadway sites. Utility locate companies often charge additional fees for locating
underground utilities outside of our dig area. Our estimate includes a fee for the additional
locates if we are billed for these services by the locate company.
We anticipate that the County will use our estimate for the basis of establishing a budget for
the project and to issue a purchase order for our services. Our estimated scope of services
and associated fees were prepared according to the terms of our professional services
agreement with Weld County for the year 2007.
