RE: Glucoscan plus machine
Central Medical Supply of Greeley, Colo. has offered to give the hCS0- medical dept, a
Glucoscan plus machine. This machine calculates from a drop of blood, the amount of sugar
in the bloodstream(whether high, low or just where it should be) . Central Medical Supply
will also give us the first set of supplies needed to go with the machine( the lancets and
the test strips) .
The machine and supplies if bought costs $215.00. The machine itself costs $160.00. The
only costs to the medical dept would be the operating supplies after the initial supplies
have run out. These supplies culd he taken out of Medical's operating supplies.
The supplies per year would be approximately $59.00 (this figure would depend on how many
diabetics we have per year, and how unstable their condition is, and how many blood sugars
would be ordered for them.)
Since /1/1/84 through 8/28/84 there have been a total of 10 blood sugars drawn. There
should have been a total of 18 blood sugars drawn but the other eight blood sugars were
not done because of them not being at convenient titres for the lat4o draw the blood, or
the people were released before the blood could be drawn. With this machine we could tell
right away wherethe diabetic was concerning his blood sugar.
Blood sugars cost $4.00 each.
10 Blood sugars drawn to date
8 Blood sugars that should have been drawn but were not due to the time not convenient
for the lab to draw the blood or the inmate was released before the blood could be
drawn.
18 blood sugars X $4.00 = $72.00 for 8 months of blood sugars where as it should
only cost the county $59.00 for a year of supplies.

RE:
Page 2 Glucoscan machine
It appears tone that the Medical dept would benefit fran this machine, in saving money,
time and efficiency would be improved, as the medical dept would be able to have a fairly
accurate recording of an inmate's blood sugar (especially diatntics) anytime they needed
it, and would not have to rely on a lab to draw the blood at the lab's convenience.
Thus an inmate would have faster more accurate treatment of his diatptes.
