Dear Commissioners,
The Supervisors of the Longmont Conservation District and the Boulder Valley
Conservation District would like to thank you for taking the time to meet with us to
discuss conservation related issues.
We appreciate your commitment to removing Russian olive and Tamarisk by providing
the leadership of Tina Booten to the South Platte Forum. We will keep watch on the
progress of this project. We are also concerned with weed control on parcels that have
been sold to developers. We usually make note on site reviews that a weed plan for
before and during construction should be developed.
We also appreciate your consideration of the protection of irrigation ditches through
developments. We understand that the southwest corner of Weld County is prime for
development and that many parcels of land have been sold to developers. Requiring the
developers to regard ditch easements is a very important issue to us. Brad Mueller's
input on this topic was beneficial.
The current issue of alternative energy is a huge topic. Your change in land use rules to
allow for wind generators on private property for private use is good. Geothermic heat
seems to be another renewable energy contribution. However, we do agree that we will
be dependent on fossil fuels for several years into the future.
We understand your position on the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District's
NISP Project. We will be sending a letter of support for the project in the next few days.
