A Kid's Place is a very important program in our community serving victims of child abuse and their families through two programs, the Child Advocacy Center and CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) of Weld County programs. The mission of A Kid's Place is to provide advocacy and support for abused or neglected children by advancing coordinated investigations,prosecution and victim services. For over eight years, A Kid's Place has been providing a safe, nurturing, and child-friendly environment for child sexual abuse victims and their non-offending family members to be interviewed through the Child Advocacy Center. While victim interviews are conducted by law enforcement officers and/or social service caseworkers, families receive support and referrals to needed services from staff. Since its inception in 1995 the Child Advocacy Center has served over 5,700 child abuse victims and their non- offending family members. Child Advocacy Center volunteers have donated 7,453 volunteer hour equaling$149,060 in-kind services. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Weld County trains community volunteers matching them with children in civil child abuse cases. Volunteers monitor the case progress, ensure that the child's treatment needs are met and report their findings directly to the court with the ultimate goal of finding a safe and permanent home for that child. In 2006, over 2,500 hours were donated by the 56 volunteers speaking up for the best interests of 203 children involved in the Dependency and Neglect court system. CASA volunteers have donated 13,745 hours working on their case equaling $687,260 in-kind services. CASA volunteers have also driven 73,664 miles, enough to travel 9.3 times around the earth. Presently, A Kid's Place is financed by: fees from investigative agencies, public and private grants, our annual fund raiser, and individual donations.
