Department of Planning Services:
Case Number.USR-1644
My name is Max Ulrich and I own the long 40 acres directly across from the Pierson
farm. This piece of property has been in my possession since 1973 and I have been the
MI time farmer of the land since that time. I have concerns about the kennel permit that
the Pierson are trying to obtain. My main concern is the effect the noise level will have
on property value.
When the Piersons first started with the Sheltie breeding, the noise level coming from the
animals was almost unnoticeable. As time has progressed they have introduced more
breeds and the overall number of dogs has increased dramatically;this has raised the
noise level noticeably. Late at night, I stop along the side of the road to change the water
on my property, this alerts the kennel and they all begin to bark.At this point in time I
have not noticed or observed any provisions or precautions being introduced to reduce
the noise level. I feel that the smaller dog operation completes the same task with out
added noise level.
This piece of property, should I ever decide to sell it,would not adequately sustain a
sprinkler system. Should the land ever be sold,it would most likely sell to an individual
wanting to construct a residence and use the rest of the land for small farming operation.
• Do to the shape of this parcel it makes it less desirable for production agriculture. This
being said,"I truly feel that by granting this permit without adequate discussion
concerning the noise level, the result could have a negative effect my own property
value."
Sincerely,
Max Ulrich
