Subject: Concerned Citizen
Dear Community Leaders and Educators,
I am writing to you as a concerned citizen. This morning, in the Greeley Tribune, I read
that a community corrections facility housing adult felony offenders is proposing to build
on a site formerly used as a nursing home located on east 18th street. I know where this
nursing home is located, 1819 Birch Avenue, and also know there are two Weld County
elementary schools located less than one mile from this location. I am extremely
concerned about the safety of our children. With this halfway house, our children will be
exposed to drug dealers, sex offenders, and gang members, and the culture of violence that
our educators have worked so hard to prevent, will be brought to their front doors. This
will ultimately affect our schools, and our children's future.
I am writing as a concerned citizen of Weld County and think that it is the responsibility
of the Board of Education to notify the parents of the children attending these schools.
I will be notifying the newspapers of my concerns as well, and encourage parent
notification before my letter reaches the paper.
Sincerely,
Concerned Citizen of Weld County
