Highway News FOR MORE INFORMATION; 757-9228 November 23, 1984 RELEASE AT WILL MEETINGS IN FIVE CITIES CONSIDER INTERCHANGE POLICY How should interchanges be added to Colorado's Interstate and limited access state highways? The answer has never been simple, and a new policy on "Review and Approval of Interchanges" is being discussed at meetings throughout the state. The new policy will offer guidelines for the Highway Commission, the Department of Highways, local governments and developers. It recognizes that the integrity of limited access highways must be preserved, in terms of serving through trips, but sets the standards for considering local access needs that develop. The first section of the policy sets forth essential criteria, the con- ditions that must be met by a local government in order for a proposed interchange to be considered for funding. Other sections deal with sharing costs, setting priorities and accelerating construction. The first meeting was held in Grand Junction on November 19. Other meetings are as follows. Interested persons may attend the meetings or may phone Mr. Bill Stringfellow at the Highway Department in Denver, (303) 757-9266, with questions.
