As you are aware the Weld County Sheriff's Office has a SWAT team that has been functioning for about 2 years now. The Negotiations unit has been under the SWAT team. The Negotiations unit has increased and is now going to be a separate unit of that team. To effectively and efficiently negotiate with someone they need to have privacy so they can perform without any interruptions. The negotiations unit has purchased a "throw phone" and all of its components to allow them to do this. Now the unit is in need of a vehicle. The SWAT vehicle that was acquired last year that is currently being used to haul the SWAT members can not have a dual purpose role. Therefore, the negotiators are not able to set up in this vehicle and operate form it. The Negotiations unit from Larimer County purchased, through a grant several years ago, an old van style ambulance. That team now has received another vehicle and has to donate their current one to someone. Larimer County cannot sell this vehicle since it was acquired through a grant and knew we were in need of one. They have asked us if we could use theirs. This would be ideal for use because they have the same equipment that we do so everything is interchangeable. They are not going to remove any of the wiring so all we would essentially have to do is put our system right inside and go. We would need to remove their outside markings, paint it and apply ours. The vehicle is a 1980 Ford Econoline 350 van with 4 wheel drive conversion. It has 55,141 miles on it. The engine is a carbureted 460 CID and it has a C-6 3 speed automatic transmission. This engine was put in at 51,600 miles. The engine is practically new with only 3,541 miles on it. Since we have this opportunity to get this vehicle for free it wouldn't take much money to get it up and running for our unit. I believe this would be a great opportunity for our unit and the SWAT team as a whole. We would like approval from the Commissioners to add this vehicle to our current inventory. Use would be very limited so I do not anticipate putting on a lot of miles outside of call outs and some training exercises. I will need some type of written authorization to complete the transaction. em-y2 7 + to c( AT(' /,' 6 tit From the Desk Of...
