HomeMy WebLinkAbout810545.tiff December 18, 1981 WELD COUNTY COMMISSIONERS In regarding the recent article in the Tribune, regarding the clarification on the terminating of employees in the Sheriff's department and the charter versus the state, I would like to mention a past situation very similar to this one. If my memory is correct about four or five years ago a deputy, not a captain was terminated when Don Bauer was the sheriff. After much delay and publicity the County Attorney ruled the deputy should be reinstated, however, Sheriff Bauer used the state statute and fited the deputy on this basis, as apparently this was the only way he could get this accomplished. The point being that if Don Bauer had the power, or if he did not, the county attorney and the county commissioners that were in office at that time, were definitely in remiss of their duties to the people of the county NOT TO GET A CLARIFICATION AT THAT TIME, AND NOT WAIT UNTIL NOW A LARGE LAWSUIT is pending, which could possible or will result in much man hours and money being spent on this. Had this been done ,at this time the present Sheriff would not be in the position today, as I am sure he was in the department at the time the deputy was terminated and probably recalls the entire situation. Furthermore, this puts him in a bad position, as the article referred to the moral of the department. . . .this has been the status since Bauer was the sheriff, as if he used it, then why not another sheriff, as this type of incident. is not easily forgotten by co=workers Let's put the blame where it belongs. . . .the county commissioners were remiss for not pursuing it several years ago A county Taxpayer cc/ Weld County Sheriff Dept. cc/ County Attorney , : cs. 1rc U10S45 Hello
