REMARKS: Food Stamp caseloads reached a record level during December as an additional 421
households received this type of assistance compared to the prior month. This increase of
approximately 161 over the prior month was caused primarily by the addition of households •
affected by the Monfort strike.
The 2,991 households (9,218 people) participating in the Food Stamp program as of December
31, 1979 was the highest recorded in Weld County since February, 1975 when 2,944 households
received Food Stamps. In comparing the December, 1979 caseload with the same month, prior
year, a 47% increase was shown (2,039 versus 2,991) . Altnougn the current strike has con-
tributed materially to the increase in the past two months, most of the year-to-year increase
is due to Federal rule changes, such as elimination of the rule that requires the recipient
to pay cash for a portion of his Food Stamps.
Although the Aid to Dependent Children caseload increased slightly during December, this
caseload remained below the number carried during December, 1978.
Total annual expenditures for 1979 (excluding Old Age Pension and Food Stamps) were
$6,969,418. This amount was 92.7% of the $7,516,910 budgeted for the year.
