East bound traffic would be stopped on WCR 26 as the roadway becomes WCR 7 and South bound traffic would be stopped on WCR 7 as the roadway becomes WCR 26. The Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) section 2B.05 suggests that stop signs should be used if engineering judgment indicates that one or more of the following conditions exist: A. Intersection of a less important road with a main road where application of the normal right-of-way rule would not be expected to provide reasonable compliance with the law; B. Street entering a through highway or street; C. Unsignalized intersection in a signalized area; and/or D. High speeds, restricted view, or crash records indicate a need for control by the STOP sign. The MUTCD also states that stop signs should not be used for speed control and should be installed in a manner that minimizes the numbers of vehicles having to stop at intersections. Due to the existing geometry of WCR 7 & 26 the installation of stops signs is not warranted by the standards defined in the MUTCD. However, due to the close proximity of the new Mead High School and expected increase traffic volumes, this location is perceived by the public as highly hazardous. The installation of stop signs would alleviate the public's concern for the safety at this intersection.
