HomeMy WebLinkAbout20091706.tiffJuly 10, 2009 Weld County Commissioners 915 10th street Greeley, CO 80632 Honorable Weld County Commissioners, We are writing in regard to the application from Aggregate Industries for additional mining permits along O Street (2nd AmUSR-897 — Aggregate Industries WCR Inc). As you are aware, Aggregate Industries has been actively mining this area for over three years and the mining has caused some concerns with those living in existing residences, including weeds and dust caused by creation of a noise abatement berm on the East side of the operation and loss of vegetation in areas immediately adjacent to the operation. We have an additional concern which is the water level of the ponds on our property, which were historically fed from underground drainage tiles fed from the North and West sides of our property. When the existing mining was started we noticed that the water level of our ponds dropped significantly. We notified Connie Davis of Aggregate Industries and she immediately made arrangements to have the water supply to the ponds supplemented with water being pumped from the mining operation. Ms. Davis has made herself continually available to address any of our concerns and has provided us with both Office and Cell phone contacts. When we notified her of the nuisance weeds growing on the berm she arranged to have the weeds burned. Aggregate has applied hydro -seeding twice in an effort to keep the dust and weeds at a minimum. Aggregate Industries management and operations personnel met with the concerned property owners in June, 2009 to personally observe our concerns. While we do not have a formal written plan for remediation of our concerns, based on the ongoing efforts of Aggregate Industries to be "good neighbors", we have no reason to doubt that they will provide permanent solutions to our concerns. We recognize that the operation has been slowed by current economic conditions and appreciate the ongoing efforts of Aggregate Industries to maintain some level of control of water and nuisances created by the operation despite almost no income from the operation. We are not opposed to issuance of any additional mining permits to Aggregate Industries providing they finish and reclaim existing operations prior to opening new areas. Sincerely, Dave and Pam Frye Mr. & Mrs. David Frye 13648 County Road 64 Greeley, CO 80631 (970) 378-7888 491,0 use ?`i1 CD 2009-1706 11-067 Hello
