REMARKS: Public Assistance and Food Stamp caseloads continued in a stable pattern
during March. There was a slight increase in households qualifying for the Aid to
Dependent Children program (+5) and a slight decrease in those households qualifying
for Food Stamps (-22) compared with the prior month of February. Caseloads are down
somewhat compared with the same month in 1977, with ADC showing 37 fewer households
and Food Stamps 97 fewer. Other public assistance caseloads did not show remarkable
change.
Expenditures for March totalled $558,715. This amount was $20,440 higher than the
previous month and $56,736 higher than the same month in 1977. Increased expenditures
from the county-funded General Assistance program of $13,000 accounted for most of the
increase compared with the prior month. Contractual payments for dental care and pay-
ment for Medical Indigent hospital services accounted for most of this increase.
Department spending remains under budget with 24% expended compared with the 25% "on-
target" rate.
