Re: National Register of Historic Places listing of the Von Trotha-Firestien Farm at Bracewell
Dear Commissioner Garcia:
We are pleased to announce the listing of the Von Trotha-Firestien Farm, located in the Greeley
vicinity, on the National Register of Historic Places and the Colorado State Register of Historic
Properties. The official designation took place on May 12, 2009, in recognition of this property's
contribution to the heritage of the State of Colorado.
The VonTrotha-Firestien Farm at Bracewell was listed for its long association with the development
of irrigated farming and livestock feeding in Weld County beginning at the turn of the twentieth
century. The resources directly correlate to the stages and technological and economic development
of agriculture in northeastern Colorado, the most important being irrigation, sugar beet cultivation
and lamb feeding, all critical to the development of Greeley and Weld County. Additionally, the farm
is significant for its architecture and construction techniques, which represent those employed by
farmers with limited means and materials.
If you have questions about the nomination process or the National Register program, please
contact our office at 303-866-3392 or oahp@chs.state.co.us for further information.
Sincerely,
Steven W. Turner, AIA
