Each year, the Safety and Wellness Committee reviews nominations for a safety and wellness award and forwards that recommendation to the Board of Commissioners. The award recognizes employees for outstanding accomplishments by either continually supporting safety and wellness issues while carrying out their daily work or for performing a single act that goes beyond the normal scope of employment. The Board of Commissioners presents the 2009 Safety and Wellness Award to Dave Bressler. Dave has been instrumental over the past two years in the acquisition and implementation of automatic external defibrillator (AED) machines in all county buildings. As Director of Paramedic Services, he and his staff witness cardiac arrests firsthand and understand how crucial time is in saving lives. Under Dave's direction, 31 AED machines have been installed and maintained in county buildings. In addition to the machines, he has allowed staff to provide CPR and AED training to county employees. To date there have been 166 employees properly trained in the administration of CPR and the use of AED machines. On October 20, the impact of this gesture was felt by a 63 -year -old man who went into cardiac arrest at the Weld County Courthouse. This man received CPR, and the AED was activated by Sheriff's Office employees. Thanks to quick action and having the right tools on hand, this individual is alive today. ****Present proclamation and Husker tissue holder. Suggest Dave use it during flu season and while watching Husker games. Hello
