TO ALL INTERESTED PARTIES :
President Carter recently signed the Community
Emergency Drought Relief Act of 1977, which was passed
by Congress in response to his request for emergency
drought legislation. Enactment of this legislation
allows the Economic Development Administration (EDA)
to provide grants and loans to many areas experiencing
human and economic problems as a result of the drought
of 1976-77 .
EDA is prepared to accept for consideration appli-
cations for assistance under this $175 million program.
Enclosed is a brochure that provides information on
the specific eligibility criteria, the types of projects
that can be funded, the forms of funding available,
and other program matters.
All potential applicants are urged to contact the
nearest EDA Regional Office or Information Office, as
listed in the enclosed brochure, for assistance in
initiating an application. Decisions on all applications
accepted for processing will be made expeditiously. No
applications, however, will be approved after September
30, 1977.
We in EDA hope this program will help relieve the
effects of the drought and reduce future distress in the
event drought conditions continue.
