SUBJECT: Needed funding for Dutch Elm Diseased Tree Removal

PROBLEM
At present onty_ffifty percent of those elms_infected with Dutch Elm
Disease in the county Riffer strip (3 mile radius) around Weld municipali-
ties have been removed. Because of: the importance of speedy removal (with-
in 50 days) , money is needed to pay for the removal of these infected elms.
This removal of infected elms will then complement existing Dutch Elm Di-
sease control programs in Weld municipalities.
The county financed removal will be paid back to the county by the
property owner whose elm was removed. No charge to a single landowner may
be over $500 annually.

PROPOSAL
1 . Obligate-'7"_ ` dollars for elm removal to be repaid by property
owners.
2. County Commissioners support the DED control program by resolution.
3. Stipulate that landowner may remove his own tree as long as it
is within the specified time period.
