Re: Youth Service Bureau update
In recent weeks it has been one of my priorities to reduce the client
contact time for the Anti-Shoplifting Program. After assessing the
Youth Service Bureau system, making changes in the letter sent from the
D. A. 's office, and talking to Lt. Lutz from the Greeley Police Depart-
ment, we have cut the contact time by 10 days.
In January, when the Youth Service Bureau moves into the D. A. ' s office,
a new system will be instituted that will cut the contact time to 6-10
days. It will be my goal to keep in contact with the Greeley Police
Department and keep the contact time as low as possible.
I think it should be noted that the Anti-Shoplifting Program only takes
22% of staff time. The services we offer go beyond those of diversion
programs. I am pleased that we are now receiving direct referrals from
three police departments , including Greeley. This is helping us to do
more delinquency prevention work with a child before he/she has com-
mitted a crime that is sent on to the D. A.
In addition the Youth Service Bureau is now in contact with several
schools and planning delinquency prevention programs and programs to
assist the schools with potential drop-outs. I am excited to be bringing
the Youth Service Bureau into the schools with education programs for
staff and children.
The Youth Service Bureau is also spearheading a drive in three commun-
ities to activate local resources to deal with the needs and problems
of youth in these communities. An initial meeting was held in Erie and
meetings are scheduled in Ft. Lupton and Platteville.
