The Sheriff's Office is an Office and not a "department" which makes me an independently elected official. I am not a department head therefore I do not work for the commissioners. I will not be following up with the commissioners regarding the letter/notice you sent me; it is not their concern how I handled the situation with the town on Nunn. I spoke to the representative from the town on Nunn who sent the letter and told them the same thing. In the future you can forward me any letters you receive that has to do with the Sheriff's Office but please do not send me the attached form because I will not respond to it. Thanks, if you have any questions please feel free to contact me. I do not believe there was going to be any action taken. He will be back in the office tomorrow and I am sending a copy of this request to him. Kim Original Message From: Tonya Disney Sent: Monday, August 09, 2010 10:36 AM To: Kimberly Higuera Subject: Letter of Concern Kim, On July 9th we (CTB) sent your department a correspondence/letter of concern from Town of Nunn for your recommendation. We haven't received anything back in our office from your office stating the action that your department feels needs to be taken. 1 • Can you please let me know where your department stands on this issue so that we can inform the BOCC and update out records. If you need an additional copy please let me know and I will be more than happy to send it again. Currently our Town is without our own Police Department. Nunn residents are taxpayers for Weld County, so we assume that we have coverage without an additional Town contract. Since our residents are taxpayers of Weld County what coverage are they entitled to without an additional contract? There have been several calls put into the Sheriffs Department regarding police reports at this time the Sheriffs Department is referring all calls to our Mayor. The Town Clerk explained to Dispatch that our Mayor was not trained to handle these complaints or reports. The Commander on shift stated these reports should be given to the Weld County District Attorney at this time the District Attorney is not taking these reports either and referred them back to the Mayor. Our Mayor is not trained in obtaining these reports; it is our understanding that the Sheriff Department is short staffed and under budget restrictions. The Town is looking into alternative coverage through either the Ault Police Department, hiring our own Officer, Town Marshall or possible contracting with Weld County for additional coverage. The Board of Trustees and the residents of the Town of Nunn would appreciate knowing what coverage are we entitled to as residents of Weld County. vrci -I t•'.'
