RE: APPROVE EXPRESSION OF SUPPORT FOR THE U.S. 85 COALITION'S EFFORT TO
APPLY FOR A "SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITIES PLANNING GRANT" OFFERED BY
HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT (HUD)
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to
Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of
administering the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and
WHEREAS,Weld County participates in a region-wide effort to support sustainability along
the U.S. Highway 85 corridor in a coalition known as the "U.S. Highway 85 Coalition", and
WHEREAS, the U.S. Highway 85 Coalition was created via a Memorandum of
Understanding and made binding by a Resolution of support between Weld County and ten other
jurisdictions in the year 2009, and tasked with addressing sustainability and regionalization efforts
along U.S. Highway 85, which is one of the most traveled principal arterials stretching from the
northern portion of Denver, Colorado, to Cheyenne, Wyoming, and
WHEREAS, Weld County supports the U.S. Highway 85 Coalition's effort to apply for a
"Sustainable Communities Planning Grant",for the amount of$2,000,000.00,to develop a regional
comprehensive sustainability plan template to be incorporated into all the community's development
codes, specifically targeting the Coalition and HUD's planning efforts regarding transportation;
housing; land use; economic development; and energy,environment, and agricultural preservation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners that full
support and encouragement is given to the"Sustainable Communities Planning Grant"application
from the U.S. Highway 85 Coalition,whose goals and policies align with the efforts of the grant, and
the Board of County Commissioners hereby pledges to allocate a proportional share of staff
resources to fulfill the non-cash, in-kind contribution as stipulated by HUD.
