HomeMy WebLinkAbout20100340.tiff MEMORANDUM 4.4 TO: Board of Commissioners DATE: February 17, 2010 wokFROM: Pat Persichino, Public Works Director COLORADO SUBJECT: 2010 Concrete/Washed Rock/Squeegee Bid, B1000056 The Public Works Department recommends that the Board of County Commissioners award the washed rock bid to Varra Companies for northern Weld County at a price of$10.75 per ton and Aggregate Industries for southern Weld County at a price of$10.10 per ton. The Aggregate Industries bid for northern Weld County did not meet specs so the next low bidder was Varra. The Public Works Department recommends that the bid for squeegee be awarded to both Pioneer Sand Company for southern Weld County and LaFarge for northern Weld County. Pioneer Sand was the lowest bidder at $1.00 per ton. However, they have only one plant in Fort Lupton. LaFarge has several plants from which we can pick material up so we recommend they receive the bid for squeegee at a cost of$2.00 per ton. The Public Works Department recommends that the concrete be awarded to Star Ready Mix, Bestway Concrete and Aggregate, and Varra Companies. These vendors were the low bidder for one class of concrete for either northern or southern Weld County. In order to take advantage of plant locations and ease of ordering one class of material from one vendor, we recommend the award be as follows: Class B for northern and southern Weld County to Varra at a cost of$81.00 per yard; Class D for northern and southern Weld County to Bestway Concrete and Aggregate at a cost of$83.10 per yard; and Flow Fill for northern Weld County to Star Ready Mix at a cost of$54.60 per yard and Bestway Concrete and Aggregate for southern Weld County at a cost of$55.00 per yard. Star Ready Mix did not bid on southern Weld County. A total of$85,000 is budgeted for this purchase. If you have any questions, please contact me at extension 3768.
