Rich,
Thank you for forwarding the citizen's allegations to our attention.
Richard Schneider, the Fort Lupton Superintendent, and his crew, and the truck drivers, are
very aware of the speed of the citizen drivers along this section of WCR 18. However,
Richard and his crew will re-emphasize to all the truck drivers the need for safe turning off
of and onto WCR 18.
As you know, many citizen drivers tend to travel at the posted speed limit or faster on
lightly-traveled county roads, and although a truck driver may take all precautions before
turning onto WCR 18, a very fast moving car can come upon a turning truck very quickly.
I actually just called Don Carroll and left a voicemail late last week asking if "Caution
Trucks Turning" (or similar) signs could be put up on either side of the Fort Lupton site
entrance. Would this be possible?
Another idea - would it be possible to have the middle yellow painted to a double yellow? It
is painted currently to allow passing. Citizens have actually (illegally) passed the
Superintendent in his pick-up on the right when he was turning in to the entrance (going
westbound) . If he had not seen the car before he turned, he would have been t-boned!
Please let me know about the possibility of the "trucks turning" signs and/or the double
yellow line.
Again - we will re-emphasize safe turning and driving to all the truck drivers.
Thank you!

Lynn,
Please find below, an excerpt from a citizen complaint Public Works received recently in
regards to the L.G. Everist Fort Lupton Pit (AmUSR-1255) .
" The trucks from the L. G. Everist pit on WCR 18 east over the river towards Hwy 85 are
pulling out of the pit and not yielding to traffic. A semi pulled out in front of her. She
asks for an acceleration lane to be put in "
I thought you would want to be made aware of the situation in order to alert the pit manager
of the allegations, in case he needs to remind the truck drivers to comply with current
traffic regulations, and thus help alleviate possible hazardous driving conditions for the
general public.
Thanks,
Rich Hastings
