Gentlemen,
Regarding the application of NE Colorado Cellular, Inc. (dba Viaero Wireless) for a
communications tower located in the Southwest quadrant of the intersection of Weld County
Road 52 and Weld County Road 57 in the NE '/< of the NE ''A of Section 34, T.05N., R. 64 W. of
the 6`1' PM, we would like to address the request for Viaero to co-locate on the grain elevator at
JBS Five Rivers-Kuner Feedlot located at 28625 Hwy 34, Kersey, CO
In general, large structures with significant surface area such as grain elevators and water towers
present major propagation, coverage and installation problems which often make the site un-
usable. The additional attenuation that the structure itself presents frequently degrades intra-
sector hand off performance which leads to higher dropped call rates and generally unsatisfactory
system performance.
• All of the design issues identified here are present with the proposed collocation and would result
in poor cell site performance. However, the primary reason this site is unusable is that the
combination of terrain and structure height result in a completely blocked microwave path to
Viaero's 7 Cross Hill site which is our network point of interconnect. This analysis assumed a
microwave antenna height of 180' AGL at the grain elevator and maximum tower height at the 7
Cross location. Even at this very generous height, you can see that the path is still 47' below
ground and is completely unusable. The results of this microwave path analysis are included for
your reference.
Based on our response, we believe that we have complied with the appropriate parts of Section
23-4-820 and hope that you will grant this request. If I may provide you with any additional
