WHEREAS, O.T. Jackson founded the Dearfield Town Site in 1910 in eastern

,e' WHEREAS,numerous African American families followed Jackson and settled o .' .
on** 1 i the area,and in its heyday,Dearfield boasted two churches, a school house, '4,
' o filling station,grocery, lunchroom, and dance pavilion, and o

u WHEREAS,although the combination of the Dust Bowl and Great Depression
limited the success of the town site endeavor,the Black American West h
< Museum, in conjunction with the University of Northern Colorado,City of
cleii lo• _:,• ,a Greeley,Colorado Preservation Inc.,Weld County, Anadarko Petroleum, ° ti's
217 ` Greeley Monument Works, and other partners, for years have worked to
preserve and interpret the site, and e ,
- WHEREAS,on September 26,2010,from noon to 5:00 p.m.,the Dearfield
Community will join together to celebrate history,cultural preservation of the e ?(
e historic town site, and unveiling of a monument to commemorate the importance �-
t ° of Dearfield to Weld County history.
