RESOLUTION
RE: AUTHORIZATION OF PURCHASE OF PROFESSIONAL LIABILITY INSUR-
ANCE FOR THE WELD COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT.
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County,
Colorado, pursuant to Colorado statute and the Weld County Home
Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of administering the
affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and
WHEREAS, it has been brought to the attention of the Board
of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, that it would
be advisable to obtain professonal liability insurance to cover
the Weld County Health Department employees to cover damages to
a Weld County citizen which may arise from the misjudgement or
errors of an employee of the Health Department, and
WHEREAS, a professional liability insurance policy is avail-
able from the St. Paul Companies for coverage in the amount of
$200,000. 00 for each claim and $600 ,000 yearly aggregate, the cost
of said policy being approximately $6 ,500 . 00 per year, and
WHEREAS, there are sufficient funds in the Health Department
budget if it is amended to use the surplus salary accounts as the
resource, and
WHEREAS, after careful consideration of the facts presented
to said Board, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County,
Colorado, deems it advisable and in the best interest of Weld
County to authorize the same.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Com-
missioners of Weld County, Colorado that Tom Dority, Finance
Director, be and hereby is, authorized to purchase professional
liability insurance for Weld County Health Department employees
from the St. Paul Companies for coverage in the amount of
$200,000. 00 for each claim and $600 ,000. 00 yearly aggregate.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Board that the Health Department
Budget be amended to allow said expenditure by using the surplus
in salary accounts as the resource.

Subject: Health Department Professional Liability Insurance
I have a proposal through the Greeley-Weld Insurors from the St. Paul Companies,
for professional liability insurance for all employees of the Health Department.
We discussed some title ago the advisability of acquiring such insurance to cover
damages to a Weld County citizen which may arise from the misjudgement or errors
of an employee of the Health Department. The Department has no such professional
liability insurance presently.
The Hospital carries professional liability insurance on all its employees for the
same purpose. We also provide professional liability insurance for employees of
the Alcohol Treatment and Detoxification Center. The Underwriter for the Center,
however, declined to increase its coverage to all Health Department employees.
Dr. Yoder personally carries professional liability insurance through the Medical
Society.
The cost for coverage in the amount of $200,000 for each claim and $600,000 yearly
aggregate will be approximately $6,500 per year. I recommend that we do acquire
this type of insurance for Health Department employees and that the Health Department
budget be ammended to accomplish this, using a surplus in salary accounts as the
resource.
