Re: Grant Funds
Dear Sheriff Cooke:
At the Board meeting scheduled for Monday,October 24,the Board of County Commissioners will
approve and reaffirm the acceptance of grant funds award through the GMS Award 2011-DD-BX-
0017,in the amount of$300,000. As proposed,the funds have been divided between equipment and
supplies necessary to equip the future crime lab facilities. According to the documentation, the
County will have until the year 2013 to expend these funds.
While we are pleased to again accept these funds, we are doing so with the understanding that the
funds will not be released for allocated expenditures until the Board has had the opportunity to come
together with your office to review,and agree upon,the project plan,the operations and maintenance
(O&M) responsibilities and funding, and the Intergovernmental Agreement with the Colorado
Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for the new facility co-utilization. As we have discussed, the
development of the crime lab represents the need for a collaborative approach and effort.
Much work has been extended on this project,and we are looking forward to meeting with you soon
to discuss these plans and to learn of the progress you and your staff have made in this effort. Any
one of us is happy to visit with you further about the Crime lab.
