RE: APPROVE INSTALLATION OF TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICE ON COUNTY ROAD 55 AT
COUNTY ROAD 60.5
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to
Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of
administering the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and
WHEREAS,the Weld County Department of Public Works has recommended to the Board
that a Stop sign be installed on County Road 55 at County Road 60.5, to ensure safety to the
traveling public, and
WHEREAS, the Board has determined that said traffic control device is necessary for the
protection of the general public.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of Weld
County, Colorado, that the Department of Public Works be, and hereby is, directed to install a Stop
sign on County Road 55 at County Road 60.5, for the safety of the general public, and said sign
shall conform to the State Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
The above and foregoing Resolution was, on motion duly made and seconded, adopted by
the following vote on the ` February, A.D., 2011.

MEMORANDUM

COLORADO SUBJECT: Installation of Stop Signs at CR 55 & 60.5
Public Works requests approval to install traffic regulatory signs (Stop sign R1-1) at the intersection of CR 55
and 60.5. Southbound traffic would be stopped on WCR 55 as the roadway intersects WCR 60.5.
The most current traffic count for CR 55 was taken in November 2010 with an ADT of 3048. The most current
traffic count for CR 60.5 was taken in November 2010 with an ADT of 3693. The Manual of Uniform Traffic
Control Devices (MUTCD) section 26,05 suggests that stop signs should be placed at Intersection of a less
important road with a main road when application of the normal right-of-way rule would not be expected to
provide reasonable compliance with the law. Based on the MUTCD Public Works recommends that traffic be
stopped on WCR 55 in the southbound direction due to volume and area conditions.
