Box 758 Greeley, CO 80632 Dear Commissioner Kirkmeyer. Thank you for your letter regarding the United States Postal Service (USPS). In an attempt to address its mounting insolvency issues, USPS is considering post office closures and consolidations (hereinafter, "retail discontinuances") throughout the state of Colorado. I share your concerns. To help you convey your frustrations surrounding the potential retail discontinuance in New Raymer, Senator Udall and I sent the attached letter to Postmaster General John E. Potter. I understand the need for small and remote communities, especially in rural and mountain regions, to be able to access the services offered by the post office. I also feel that the post office is an important avenue for communities to access the federal government. We have requested that USPS keep us apprised of the status of the potential retail discontinuance in New Raymer. Should my office obtain any additional information regarding this matter, I will keep you informed. Sincerely, Abefiet Michael F. Bennet United States Senator Il - a D 1 l PRINTED ON RECYCLED PAPER 2011-1524 .4 gy t tcA6. June 8,2011 Mr. John E. Potter, Postmaster General United States Postal Service 475 L'Enfant Plaza, SW Washington, DC 20260-0010 Dear Mr. Postmaster General: On behalf of our constituents across Colorado, we write to express concern about potential United States Postal Service(USPS) location closures and consolidations (hereinafter, "retail discontinuance"). As you know, small and remote communities, especially in rural and mountain regions. often depend on the local post office as an accessible representation of the federal government and for their mail service. These Coloradans are understandably worried that retail discontinuance of some of the post offices could negatively affect the vitality of their respective communities and constrain their choices, causing them to embark upon difficult and dangerous winter commutes to distant postal facilities. Most recently, we have received information about potential retail discontinuances of the following locations: Parlin, Agate, New Raymer, Lewis and Pleasant View. In addition to these locations, we have heard rumors about six more Colorado locations being considered for retail discontinuance. Please provide us with any information that may help us address these concerns. In addition, we request any further explanation of the rationale behind closing post office facilities in regions that have little or no access to other post office facilities. We applaud the efforts that the USPS is making to cut losses and understand that retail discontinuance is a realistic piece of the efforts necessary to move towards solvency. Thank you in advance for your attention to this issue and we look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, hilf\o/1/4,.Q #d s,6 Michael F. Rennet Mark E.
