Dear Commissioner Carlson and Members of the Board:
The Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Advisory
Council, which is composed of 33 members appointed by the Governor,
understands that the Weld County Youth Service Bureau may be facing
a cut in positions in this year's budget cycle. As an advocacy
group interested in an effective and comprehensive service delivery
system to youth, we are concerned that such a cut may seriously
affect the ability of the Youth Service Bureau to provide ser-
vices to youth.
It is our conviction that unless front-end alternative
services, such as YSB ' s , are available and sufficiently staffed,
a greater number of juveniles progress further into the system
at a much greater cost to the County and State. With effective
front-end services available, we feel sure that youth are not
only provided more beneficial and effective services , but may be
prevented from getting into further trouble. For these reasons ,
we would strongly urge you not to cut these positions.
Thank you for your consideration of this matter. If you
have any questions about this matter, please feel free to call me.
Sincerely,
q''.,,,,,,•..‘Jim Oleson

Dear Commissioners :
The Board of Directors of the Fort Lupton Recreation Program
is opposed to the removal of Constance Schroeder of the
Youth Service Bureau from Fort Lupton. This office with its
many services has enabled our program to reach a number
of youth we would not otherwise have been aide to serve.
The cooperation of the people based here, particularly, Mrs .
Schroeder has been invaluable to our program. We have been
able to expand our activities this year to include more
programs for more young people .
10‘,e do not feel the services can be as efficently run from a
Greeley office expecially with transportation becoming a
growing concern. Not only recreation but the entire southern
Weld community will suffer with the closure of this office.
We ask that you give this a great deal of thought before
a decision is made.
Sincerely,
