Home My WebLink About20112057.tiff RESOLUTION RE: RENAMING U.S. HIGHWAY 85 THROUGH WELD COUNTY AS CENTENNIAL HIGHWAY WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of administering the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and WHEREAS,Weld County recognizes and values the U.S. Highway 85 corridor as a regional transportation corridor and the backbone of northern Colorado, and WHEREAS, Weld County is a member of the U.S. Highway 85 Coalition, and WHEREAS,The U.S. Highway 85 Coalition desires the elected officials, local governments, federal and state agencies and citizens to recognize U.S. Highway 85 is vital to the long term health and wealth of the region, and WHEREAS, the U.S. Highway 85 Coalition encourages all cities and towns along U.S. Highway 85 to rename the highway through their community to Centennial Highway in order to encourage corridor unity and in honor of Weld County's sesquicentennial anniversary, and WHEREAS, the intent of the U.S. Highway 85 Coalition to rename the U.S. Highway 85 Corridor is for branding and unification of the corridor, and in no way is intended to interfere with the Blue Star Memorial Highway markers, which are located throughout the United States in honor of the servicemen and women of the U.S. Armed Forces, and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board to rename those Weld County portions of U.S. Highway 85 not within a municipal jurisdiction to Centennial Highway. The above and foregoing Resolution was, on motion duly made and seconded, adopted by the following vote on the 1st day of August, A.D., 2011. Do we really want to change the name or do we want to promote the given name.
