Dear Commissioner Kirkmeyer,
This letter is to inform you and the Weld County Communications Advisory Board that the Nunn Fire
Protection District will, under threat of discontinuance of fire dispatching, begin using the apparatus
numbering system when talking to Weld County Communications Center beginning May 1,2011.
However Nunn Fire Protection District will continue to use Plain Language on our scenes,and will ask
any incoming mutual aid units to do the same.
Firefighter safety is our number one concern and using the numbering system adds another level of
confusion to an already dangerous situation. The move to Plain Language has been recommended by
FEMA, Homeland Security, NIMS, and The International Association of Fire Chiefs. Nunn Fire Protection
District works not only with Weld County agencies but also with emergency agencies from Wyoming,
Larimer County,as well as the US Forest Service none of which knows or understands the Weld County
numbering codes.
Captain Mike Savage has been advised of our decision.
