Subj: Case#USR-1781 Genesis Project of Northern Colorado
This memo is for the purpose of communicating a significant escalation of risk at the site recently
approved for this project. During late September into October, Petroleum Development Corporation
had a contract drilling firm prepare a site and complete drilling of a directional natural gas/oil well on
the Stille property. From the looks of the tank battery placed—six large oil tanks—they must anticipate
substantial production at this site. The well head location appears to be directly east of the proposed
Genesis 'home' at a distance of slightly greater than 100 but less than 200 feet. Both the well and the
home set on a shale shelf that would be prone to lateral dispersion of gas should any leakage occur at or
about the well head. Such gas movement could then engage the proposed septic system or other
underground utilities coursing to or from the Genesis building. Should this unfortunate event occur, it
could truly'launch' the Genesis project in a quite unfortunate manner. As an example, recall what
happened to the lumber yard in LaSalle a number of years ago.
It might thus behoove Weld County Planning Services to revisit this site and reassess its overall safety as
planned and/or with additional mitigating redesign steps to reduce risk imposed by this new industrial
feature.
