Re: Sheriff s Code Enforcement, %ton 4X4 extended cab long box pickup— 1 each
Marcia,
At the work session meeting with the Board of County Commissioners on January 18th of 2011,
additional information was requested about the vehicle that the Sheriff's Office had chosen.
The bid provided from Rush Medium Duty Trucks meets all bid specifications; (1) 2011 %ton
4X4 extended cab long box pickup at $23,915.00. The Ford F250 provides the best working
platform for the current business practices of the Animal Control/Code Enforcement unit for
several factors:
o The animal containment unit that is currently attached to another fleet vehicle is
specifically designed to be mounted on a Ford Chassis. The cost for transferring
the animal containment unit to another manufacturer's chassis is approximately
6,679 dollars. To change the box over to another Ford chassis would cost
approximately 1,000 dollars.
o Since the Animal Control/Code Enforcement unit utilizes Ford vehicles now, the
associated equipment necessary of the assigned personnel can be mounted in a
uniform manner to allow for better transition from one vehicle to another.
o By utilizing vehicles of similar make,the animal containment unit can be
transferred much more easily between vehicles to allow for mileage to be
"balanced" for the fleet. The truck with the animal containment unit tends to be
the most utilized vehicle. By having a standard vehicle platform for the animal
containment unit, the mileage of all the vehicles in the unit can be better utilized
to get the most longevity possible.
o Lastly, the vehicles in the Animal Control/Code Enforcement unit are utilized as
primary responder vehicles during times of extremely inclement weather. From
past history, the independent front suspension and transmission combination
that is offered by GM has not performed well during severe duty use which

resulted in high maintenance costs. The animal containment unit was originally
fitted to a GM chassis and was modified to fit a Ford chassis approximately 3
years ago when the last GM vehicle was removed from the Animal Control/Code
Enforcement fleet.
The Sheriff's Office requests that the bid from Rush Medium Duty Trucks for (1) 2011 %ton 4X4
extended cab long box pickup be approved to include the one option for a total of$23,915.00.
