RE: APPROVE INSTALLATION OF TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES ON COUNTY ROAD 5 AT
COUNTY ROAD 46
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to
Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of
administering the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and
WHEREAS,the Weld County Department of Public Works has recommended to the Board
that Stop signs be installed on County Road 5, at County Road 46, to ensure safety to the traveling
public, and
WHEREAS,the Board has determined that said traffic control devices are necessary for the
protection of the general public.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of Weld
County, Colorado, that the Department of Public Works be, and hereby is, directed to install Stop
signs on County Road 5, at County Road 46, for the safety of the general public, and said signs
shall conform to the State Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
The above and foregoing Resolution was, on motion duly made and seconded, adopted by
the following vote on the 5th day of January, A.D., 2011.

COLORADO SUBJECT: Installation of Stop Signs at CR 46 & 5
Public Works requests approval to install traffic regulatory signs (Stop sign R1-1) at the intersection of CR 46
and 5. East and West bound traffic would be stopped on WCR 5 as the roadway intersects WCR 46.
The most current traffic count for CR 46 was taken in February 2009 with an ADT of 150. The most current
traffic count for CR 5 was taken in February 2009 with an ADT of 73. The Manual of Uniform Traffic Control
Devices (MUTCD) section 2B.05 suggests that stop signs should be placed at Intersection of a less important
road with a main road when application of the normal right-of-way rule would not be expected to provide
reasonable compliance with the law. Based on the MUTCD Public Works recommends that traffic be stopped
on WCR 5 in the east and west bound direction due to sight distance issues.
