RE: APPROVE INSTALLATION OF TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES ON COUNTY ROAD
45 AT COUNTY ROAD 86
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to
Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of
administering the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and
WHEREAS, the Weld County Department of Public Works has recommended to the
Board that Stop signs be installed on County Road 45 at County Road 86, to ensure safety to
the traveling public, and
WHEREAS, the Board has determined that said traffic control devices are necessary for
the protection of the general public.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Weld County, Colorado, that the Department of Public Works be, and hereby is, directed to
install Stop signs on County Road 45 at County Road 86, for the safety of the general public,
and said signs shall conform to the State Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
The above and foregoing Resolution was, on motion duly made and seconded, adopted
by the following vote on the 3rd day of October, A.D., 2012.

SUBJECT: Installation of Stop Signs on CR 45
Public Works requests approval to install a traffic regulatory signs (Stop sign R1-1) at the intersections of CR
45 with CR 86. North and South bound traffic would be stopped on CR 45 at CR 86.
The traffic count for CR 45 was taken in June 2008 with an AADT of 29. The traffic count for CR 86 was taken
in June 2008 with an AADT of 78; both county roads are gravel roads. The Manual of Uniform Traffic Control
Devices (MUTCD) section 2B.04 suggests that stop signs should be placed at an intersection of a less
important road with a main road where application of the normal right-of-way rule would not be expected to
provide reasonable compliance with the law. There is some vegetation and a house on the North East corner
of the intersection creating a sight distance issue. Public Works recommends that traffic be stopped on CR 45
& CR 86 in the north and south bound direction due to the traffic volumes in the area.
